Biography

I received my undergraduate degree at Washington and Lee University in 1994, a master's degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1995, and my Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002. I have taught at the University of Kansas since 2002 and have been an Associate Dean in the KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences since 2018. Since 2022, I have been the editor of Utilitas.

Research interests:

  • consequentialist moral theories
  • expected-utility theory
  • the role of moral reasoning in judicial decision-making

  • ethics (introductory and advanced)
  • rational choice theory
